How to face our fears?
It happens to all of us to be afraid of something sometimes. Being scared is reasonable because it makes us avoid situations that might be hurtful.
Sometimes, fears disturb our lives and become an obstacle in our way. In this article, we will talk about ways to overcome fear.
Methods of Overcoming Fears
We have a famous saying: “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” But there are a lot of scary things in the outside world. Therefore, knowing the methods of overcoming fear and anxiety is vital.
step one
The first step to overcoming fear is to identify quite what you fear. Accurate diagnosis of your fears has two important reasons. First, it helps you do things that don’t bother you, but you’ve been avoiding them for some reason. Second, it lets you focus on the main issue and avoid side issues. Talking about it with someone else, like a close friend, will be easier if you pinpoint your fear. Talking about the situation causing your anxiety can reduce your fear of that situation.
The second step
The second step to overcoming fear is understanding what we tell ourselves and how it causes our anxiety. Often, we talk to ourselves unconsciously, even if it’s internal. These conversations may be one of the reasons why fear is aroused in us. To reduce anxiety, tell yourself positive affirmations to reduce fear.
The third step
The third step in coping with fear is exaggerating the unfortunate events you fear will happen. Often, without being fully aware, we over-imagine and exaggerate these events, which exacerbates our anxiety. For example, imagine the worst if you are afraid to call your loved one to connect and get to know them better. Then tell yourself that even if you make that call and things don’t go your way, it won’t be terrible. You might get better results than you think. Nothing is certain until you act.
The fourth step
The fourth step in dealing with fear is to use imagination and positive imagery. First, relax, take a deep breath, and tighten your muscles simultaneously. Then, slowly exhale and relax the muscles at the same time. Repeat this process several times. Then, imagine approaching the fearful situation and dealing with it. Try to create a mental picture of yourself in that scary situation and experience yourself successfully dealing with that situation, even if you are still a little scared. This positive visualization and mental experience can help you.

The fifth step of overcoming fear
The last step in dealing with fear is to face the situation, person, or thing you fear in the real world. However, this change can be divided into several steps to gradually and confidently change your actions. For example, if you’re afraid to speak up in class, you can start by asking your professor questions after class. After doing this successfully, you can ask your questions during the class. Then you can express your opinion during the class. Continue this process by commenting after the course and during the class. Eventually, by strengthening yourself, you will become strong enough to express yourself freely in class meetings. This gradual compartmentalization of the change process will help you approach and overcome your fear with more confidence.
